Spirit of the Forest

The Spirit of the Forest
The maquette for this sculpture won the Coleford Public Art Commission Competition and was fabricated locally in stainless steel at PJ Engineering, who also transported the sculpture to site, where they bolted and welded the antlers to the sculpture.
Paul Janes made the complicated pattern for the sculpture from Diane's plaster maquette, shown here photoshopped onto the site in the first image of the slide show. Ben Collins carefully fabricated the full sized 4.8m high sculpture and also the stainless steel maquette - made to help the process of enlarging the work.
Phil drew up the techincal drawings for the project and assisted on site. The structural engineer was Darren Paine. Complete Utilities built the below ground concrete base and made good the site after the installation - they kindly donated all this work. Damon Bramley - Sculpture Transport and Installation lifted and fixed the work in place, with Phil's assistance.
Seeing a White Hart is meant to bring good fortune and we hope this sculpture will be lucky for Coleford. It has branches instead of antlers because it is the Spirit of the Forest.
This sculpture can also be found on google maps - type 'sculpture in Coleford'.
